LORD LOUDONS MARCH [1]. AKA – "Lord Loudean's March." AKA and see "London March," "Loudon March." Scottish, March (4/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The melody appears in the 1768 (James) Gillespie Manuscript of Perth and in Preston's Marches, Airs & Minuets (London, 1804). The Scottish versions published by Bremner and Gillespie appear to predate the later versions printed (and entered into manuscripts) as "London March," a title that is probably a corruption of "Loudon's March." See also James Aird's "March of the Third Regiment of Guards" and the derivative "Scotch Hornpipe (1)."

The march was entered into a number of 18th and 19th century English musicians manuscripts, including those of 34th Regiment fifer John Buttery, R. Dalton (Sheffield, 1841), T.J. Dixon (Lincolnshire, early 19th cent.), Joshua Gibbon (Tealby, Lincolnshire, mid-19th cent.), William Killey (Jurby, Isle of Man, mid-19th cent.), Lawrence Ledley (Helperby, Yorkshire, mid-19th cent.), J. Moore (Tyneside, 1841), Humphrey Senhouse (Cumberland, 1747), Wiliam Tildesley (Swinton, Lancs., 1860's) and James Winder (Lancashire, mid-19th cent.).
