MERRY DANCE [1], THE. AKA and see "Come Up the Back Stairs." American, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part (Burchenal): ABB (Linscott): ABCA (Howe). "The tune closely resembles an old Irish air, 'The Fairy Dance', from which it probably is derived" (Linscott, 1939). Howe and Burchenal both print contra dance directions for the tune.
