The Wesentras were originally Dutch in origin, but rose through the generations to become a wealthy and influential family in County Monaghan, one branch ennobled as the Lord Rossmore, and political and a Member of Parliament. One Lord Rossmore, born in 1765, was a wealthy landlord and owner of the town of Monaghan and other estates. He was an aristocratic performer on the Irish or Union pipes, as was his son, the third baron, who was quite accomplished.
