SKENE OF SKENE. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune's composition is attributed to "G.S." in the Charles Duff collection of c. 1790. George Skene (1749-1825) of Skene, Aberdeen and Careston, Angus, was educated for the bar but never practiced. Rather, he served in the army as a captain for some years and afterwards was elected as MP for the county of Aberdeen for one term. He was an ardent Whig and a supporter of Fox. Unfortunately, for he was said to have been a mannered and able public servant, he was a dissolute and never married.
