Paul de Grae[1] finds the tune nearly identical to a jig from collector Wikipedia:George_Petrie_(artist) called "Tear the Callies," with a close variant in Michael Coleman's "Kerrigan's Jig." He also points out that a variation of the first strain of "Spring Well (1)" is employed as the second strain of "Fond of the Ladies."
"The Spring Well" is most recognizable as a variant of the popular session tune “Kesh Jig (1) (The)," and similar to O'Neill's own “Mountaineers' March (The).”
