The melody and country dance directions were printed by London publisher John Young in all four editions of his Second Volume of the Dancing Master (1710-1728). It also appeared in Walsh & Randall's The New Country Dancing Master...Second Book (1710) and Walsh and Hare's The Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1719). The title may refer to the Acts of Union [1] of 1706 and 1707 by the English and Scottish Parliaments that united England and Scotland into Great Britain (see also Young's "Scotch Union").
