WALTZ [84]. English, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. Publisher Edward Riley's note with the tune reads, "Composed by Princess Charlotte a few weeks before her death." Princess Charlotte of Wales, the daughter of King George IV and granddaughter of George III was in line for the throne, but died at age 21 after giving birth to a stillborn child. Charlotte was an accomplished pianist, thriving under the tutelage of Jane Mary Guest (AKA Jenny Guest and later as Jane Mary Miles), an English composer and pianist who had been a pupil of Johann Christian Bach.
