N:James Sheedy was a celebrated Munster piper about whom little is known. Joyce obtained the tune
N:in 1852 from the whistling of farmer Dineen, who had learned it from Sheedy in his youth.
N:Joyce noted Sheedy had "died a very old man, more than thirty years ago," making the probable
N:hey-day of Sheedy in the late 18th century.
