CALVER LODGE. Scottish, Country Dance Tune (whole or 2/4 time). D Major (Kerr): G Major (Howe, Manson). Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Edinburgh fiddler-composer and bandleader annotation:Nathaniel Gow and first published as a country dance in his Favorite Dances of 1812 (p. 1), the cover proclaiming: ”As Performed at his Annual Ball in George Street Assembly Rooms the 3rd of March.” The Assembly Rooms in George Street remained Edinburgh's premiere venue for dancing assemblies throughout the first half of the 19th century, although it regularly housed concerts as well. The tune and dance also appear in the Scottish Country Dance Book vol. 8 (No. 3).
