CAMERON HIGHLANDERS, THE. Scottish, Quickstep March (2/4 and 4/4 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Brody): AABBCCD (Hunter): AABBCCDD' (Cranford). A well-known pipe-style march composed in the 1880's by wikipedia:James_Scott_Skinner, first printed in his Logie Collection (1888). Skinner titled the piece after the famous Highland regiment in which his older brother Sandy served for eleven years (1857-1868) in the middle of the Victorian era. Sandy survived this experience and became a dancing master patroned by Sir Charles Forbes of New Strathdon. Noted as having been played by him in 1921 concert tours as one of the tunes in the romantically named set "Spey's Fury's" (Alburger). In Ireland the tune is rendered as a barn dance.
Skinner himself recorded the march as part of a medley recorded in London in September, 1906 (77538) and again in London in February, 1910 (medley: Athole Highlanders Farewell to Loch Katrine / Cameron Highlanders / The Inverness Gathering).
