CATHAL'S FAVOURITE. AKA and see "Flail (2) (The)," "Old Flail (The)." Irish, Jig (6/8 time). G major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. The tune is actually a Vincent Broderick composition called "The Old Flail" and appears in his book The Turoe Stone (1990, p. 15). The title "Cathal's Favourite" refers to Boys of the Lough flute player Cathal McConnell. The Boys recorded the tune on their album "Good Friends, Good Music," and when preparing to put together the flute tracks with Cathal, Patsy Hanley and Vincent Broderick, the other two were surprised to find that the latter musician was in fact the composer!
