EVANS. AKA - "Ewan's Hornpipe." Scottish, Hornpipe (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody also goes by the (generic) title "Clog Hornpipe (1)", also called "Navvie on the Line." The 'A' part is also quite similar to the 'A' part of the American old-time tune "Magpie." The title is "Ewan's Hornpipe" in Middleton's 1870 collection, and "Evan's" in James Stewart-Robertson's 1884 collection. The hornpipe also was entered as "Ewan's Hornpipe" in the c. 1890 music manuscript collection of George H. Watson (Swanton Abbott, East Anglia).
