GLORY REEL (Ril na Gloire). Irish, Reel. Ireland, Glencolumbkille and Kilcar area, southwest Donegal. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABCC'. The title is an Englished corruption of the Gaelic Ril na Gloar ('the drone-sounding reel'). A popular reel in County Donegal, given impetus from the playing of the Deargs of Kilcar; in fact, the tune has been credited to the late Francie Dearg (red-haired) Byrne of Cashel, Kilcar, Donegal. An untitled tune in Brendan Breathnach's Ceol Rince na hÉirreann (vol. II, No. 162) bears strong similarities to the Donegal tune. See also a related untitled tune in The Northern Fiddler (1979), p. 76(b).
Additional notes Source for notated version : - Francie and Mickey Byrne (Donegal) [Feldman & O'Doherty].
