It is said that the term 'honeymoon' derives from ancient Babylonia and is some 4,000 years old. It was the accepted custom in those days for the bride's father to supply his new son-in-law with all the mead he could drink for a month after the wedding. Mead, a honey-based alcoholic brew, and because the Babylonian calendar was lunar based the month long period came to be known as the 'honey-moon.'
