IKE FORRESTER'S REEL [2]. AKA and see "Greenfield Hornpipe." American, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Ike Forrester's Reel (2)" is a miss-title of the tune, which is actually "Forester's Hornpipe." The title "Ike Forrester" for the tune is an instance of title 'creep' from one genre to another; Ike Forrester was a blacksmith from Edina, Missouri, an acquaintance for whom Francis O'Neill titled a tune in his Music of Ireland (1903)[1]. "Forester's Hornpipe" itself is a retitling of an older tune by Michael Higgins (1829) called "Greenfield Hornpipe."
- ↑ O'Neill's "Ike Forrester's Reel (1)" is well-known by the name "Merry Blacksmith (The)."
