A Mixolydian/dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). An early version of the reel can be found in the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of D. Curtin of Sliabh Luachra as "A Favourite Reel" (No. 12, p. 5). Brendan Breathnach, in his Ceol Rince na hÉireann III (1985, No. 96)) notes that "In and Out the Harbor" was a County Clare title for this tune.
