JACKSON'S FRIEZE COAT (Casog-Breid Mic Seoin). AKA and see "Lisheen Slide." Irish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBC. The tune can be played as a single jig or slide as well as a 6/8 jig--see the Sliabh Luachra (Cork/Kerry border region) variant "Lisheen Slide." See also an untitled related jig in Breathnach's Ceol Rince na hÉireann, vol. V (No. 20).
Source for notated version: "Cronin" [O'Neill]. Chicago fiddler Edward Cronin was born in the early 1840's in Tipperary Junction, County Limerick. He was one of the most skilled Irish fiddlers in Chicago and Francis O'Neill obtained many fine tunes from his vast repertoire. However, Cronin could also be suspicious and difficult, and boasted that he never forgave nor forgot a slight. Indeed, it was some perceived offense that led Cronin to break off his relationship with O'Neill.
