MR. HANNY OF BARGALY. AKA - "Miss Hanny of Bugally's Reel." Scottish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by Abraham MacIntosh (1769-c. 1808), son of Robert "Red Rob" Mackintosh, who followed into his father's profession of music and dance. He published the collection Thirty New Strathspey Reels (1792) in Edinburgh, but by 1807 he had removed to Newcastle-on-Tyne, where he had established himself as a music teacher and dancing master. His composition was printed in his early 19th century publication Collection of strathspeys, reels, jigs etc. (arranged as medleys) for the harp, piano forte, violin and violincello ... selected and composed by Abraham Mackintosh. Teacher of Dancing Newcastle upon Tyne under the title "Miss Hanny of Bugally's Reel" [1]. It appears in other collections, including Macintosh's own, as "Mr." Hanny, of "Bargaly", not 'Bugally,' notes Matt Seattle.

There was a Bargaly House near to Stronord, Dumfries and Galloway, although what, if any, connection it may have with the tune is unknown.
