MRS. MACDONALD OF CLANRANNALD’S [3]. AKA - "Mr. Macdonald's Reel." Scottish, Reel. E Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by wikipedia:Nathaniel_Gow (1763-1831). Nathaniel was a son of the famous fiddler wikipedia:Niel_Gow, and was himself a fiddler, composer, teacher, bandleader and music publisher. His title may refer to Katherine MacQueen (b. 1762), a daughter of Robert MacQueen, Lord Braxfield, who married John Macdonald, the 17th Chief of Clanrannald (1765-1794), who died at the early age of 29. Their son, Ranald George MacDonald (1790-1873) 18th of Clanranald, managed to squander the family’s lands and assests in his lifetime in the gambling saloons of Edinburgh and London. He eventually sold the estates to Colonel Gordon of Cluny, infamous for his role in the Highland clearances which effectively destroyed the clan.
