COOLEY'S HORNPIPE. AKA - "Joe Cooley's Hornpipe." Irish, Hornpipe. G Major (most versions): A Major (O'Malley). Standard tuning. AABB (most versions): AA'BB' (O'Malley). Composed by Nenagh, County Tipperary, button accordion player Paddy O'Brien (1922-1991), in honor of renowned County Galway D/D# box player Joe Cooley, a contemporary who also helped to popularize the tune. There are several variants of the second part of the tune in modern usage, but regardless it remains a popular session tune.
