KITTY MAGENNIS. Irish, Air or Planxty (3/4 time). G Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Composed by blind Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan [1] (1670-1738). O'Sullivan (1958) says that "it appears from the words that Kitty Magennis was a daughter of Arthur Magennis. In all probability he was the neighbour of Maguire of Tempo to whose place Maguire suggested Carolan that they should ride over for dinner; but Carolan demurred on the ground that he wished to go to Alderford."
Source for notated version: John Mulholland's Collection of Ancient Irish Airs [2] (Belfast, 1810) [O'Sullivan]. There were no accidentals in Mulholland's setting (i.e. G mixolydian), and it was altered to the dorian mode by O'Sullivan.
