Back to Love Lies a-Bleeding
LOVE LIES A-BLEEDING. AKA and see "Dour's Catastrophe," "Dove's Catastrophe," "Lawyers leave your pleading." English, Country Dance Tune (2/2 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The melody was first published in the supplement to the 3rd edition of John Playford's Dancing Master [1] (1657) under the alternate title(s). It did not appear in the Dancing Master as "Love Lies a-Bleeding" until the 7th edition of 1686, and, so-titled, it was retained in the long-running series through the 18th and final edition of 1728 (then published by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing concerns). The melody was also published by the Walshes, in The Compleat Country Dancing Master (editions of 1718, 1731 and 1754).
