MANTLE SO GREEN [2], THE. Irish, Air (3/4 time). G Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB.

As I went a-walking one morning in June,
To view the green fields and the meadows in bloom,
I espied a young damsel, she appeared like a queen,
With her costly fine robes and her mantle so green.

See also Darley & McCall's variant, "Mantle so Green (1) (The)."

Source for notated version: "Mr. J. McKenzie of Newtownards, a great lover of Irish Music and of the corresponding folk songs, sent me (this air) about 30 years ago" (i.e. c. 1875).

Printed sources: Joyce (Old Irish Folk Music and Songs), 1909; No. 325, p. 151.
