NEAT SHOE, THE. AKA - "Neat Made Shoe (The)." Scottish, Strathspey Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCD (McGlashan):AABBCCDD (Rook). The reel appears in the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, of Wigton, Cumbria, in a version distanced from McGlashan's original. Rook entered the title in the ms. with a tiny picture of a shoe substituting for the word "shoe".
