Although source Bob Holt never heard Deckard play it, this was a well-known square dance tune when Holt was growing up. In fact, Holt learned it from the whistling of his own father, who said he had learned it at square dances when he himself was young. The Deckard family, of McClurg, Missouri, were well-known for their fiddling and dancing, remark Beisswenger & McCann (2008).
