The title appears in a list of traditional Ozarks Mountains fiddle tunes compiled by musicologist/folklorist Vance Randolph, published in 1954. The title in the Ozarks does not refer tune is not the commonly known "Sally Goodin'," nor is it similar to "Bear Creek Sally Goodin'," but rather is a substantially different melody that retains, distantly, some elements of the "Sally Goodin'" melody. However, "Sally Goodin/Gooden" has been called "Old Sally Gooden" as well (c.f. Fiddlin' John Carson, OKeh 40095, 1924).
