Rathlin Island, County Antrim, is one of several islands between Ireland and Kintyre, Scotland. The fishhook-shaped island served as the refuge of Scottish patriot Robert Bruce in the year 1306, and it is said that it was on Rathlin that he saw a spider rebuilding its web that suggested to him to consider trying again to struggle towards a successful rebellion against the English.
