Source for notated version: "Phil Gleeson of Coolfree near Ballyorgan in the Co. Limerick, from whom I took down this air (about 1852), had a memory richly stored with Irish airs, songs, and folklore. He was a noted singer, and such an inimitable whistler that at some distance he was able to puzzle the best ear as to what sort of musical instrument he played" (Joyce).
