Drew Beisswenger (2008) remarks that the tune is sometimes credited to source Cotton Combs, although there seem to be other tunes that go by the name “Razorback Waltz.” Combs’ version is identified by Beisswenger as similar to Bill Monroe’s “Roxanna Waltz,” while the ‘A’ part is similar to the ‘B’ part of the well-known “Tennessee Waltz (2).” A razorback is a feral pig, introduced to the Americas in the 16th century; however, more to the point of this Ozarks waltz, it is also the nickname for the University of Arkansas athletic teams.
