LADY EMILY FITZGERALD'S REEL. Irish, Reel (cut time). C Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB.

Emily Fitzgerald, Duchess of Leinster, by Joshua Reynolds (c. 1770's)

Lady Emily Fitzgerald [1] (1731-1814) was the second of the famous Lennox sisters, daughters of Charles Lennox, 2nd Duke of Richmond. In 1747 she married James FitzGerald, 20th Earl of Kildare, with whom she had a remarkable nineteen children. After the Duke died in 1773 she married her children's tutor, William Ogilvie, a commoner with whom she had previously had an affair (the Duke had also been known for his infidelities), and had a further three children. She was provided for generously in Lord Kildare's will, and lived in the Georgian mansion of Frescati House (Blackrock, Dublin) near the sea, retaining an interest in Leinster House, Dublin.
