NEW STRATHSPEY, A. English, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in the 1840 music manuscript collection of multi-instrumentalist John Rook, of Waverton, Cunbria. The tune is in 6/8 time, and calling it a 'strathspey' seems more than a stretch, even if it was comprised of triplets in 4/4 time. The melody was collected in upstate New York as "Miss McLeod's Reel (2)," a similarly misplaced title for a 6/8 tune.
