'''BUCKS PHAETON, THE'''.  AKA  - "A Trip to Windsor." English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson's third country dance collection (London, 1773). 'Bucks' refers to young 'gentlemen', while 'phaeton' was a type of horse-drawn carriage (a classical allusion to Phaeton, who attempted to drive the Sun-god's chariot). The phaeton was an open-sided carriage, owner-driven, that usually had a top or roof to protect against the elements.
