| BURN'S MARCH. AKA and see "Huggad de gadda freed a mony" ("Chugad a'gadaidhe fríd a'mónaidh"), "Im Bó agus Um Bó," "Pretty Peggy (4)," "Steal a Cow and Eat a Cow." Irish, March (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABBCCDD. The tune appears five times in the Irish collector Bunting's manuscripts, two of which were collected from some of the last of the ancient Irish harpers, Denis Hempson (County Derry) and Patrick Quin. Each time there is a note to the effect that it was one of the first handful of tunes taught to beginners. Fleischmann calls the tune a "march or harp lesson," after Bunting's note that it is "one of the progressive lessons taught young harpers." See also O'Farrell's similarly titled "Byrn's March."
