'''BLACKLING RACES'''. AKA and see "Babes in the Woods [3]," "Blanchland Races," "The Miller's Frolics [2]," "Peter Street [1]," "Timour the Tartar." English, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning. AABA. The melody appears in the music manuscript copybook of fiddler John Burks, dated 1821. Unfortunately, nothing is known of Burks although he may have been from the north of England. Burks' title may be a corruption of "Blanchland Races," by which the tune is known in Northumberland (Blandland being a small village in south Northumberland).
