MOUNT PLEASANT [1]. American, Air or March (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. A shape note hymn tune composed in 1789 by James Leach, adapted and employed by Alstead, New Hampshire, fiddler Randy Miller as a march. Leach was born at Wadley, near Lancashire, in 1762, and published a collection of hymns and Psalm tunes in 1789, many of which found their way into American sacred harp and other hymn collections, such as the Missouri Harmony (1837, p. 199).
