G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Pat Beirne was a famous Irish musician who influenced many other traditional musicians in latter 19th century Ireland. He is not to be confused with the Scots fiddler Pate (Patrick or Patie) Birnie of Kinghorn who was born around 1635, of whom it is said "also gained fame for having...run all the way home to Kinghorn from the Battle of Bothwell Bridge, a distance which must be all of 70 miles!" (Collinson, 1966). O’Neill also prints part of the tune as “Fond of the Ladies,” although the second strain is different.
