Back to Whale Polka (The)


WHALE POLKA, THE. English, Polka. England, Yorkshire. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The polka appears as "Original Set of Mazurkas Finale" in Laybourn's Köhlers’ Violin Repository Book 1 (Edinburgh, 1881). No other instances of the "Whale Polka" under that title have been found, and it appears ideosyncratic to Leadley's manuscript.

Source for notated version: an MS collection by fiddler Lawrence Leadley, 1827-1897 (Helperby, Yorkshire) [Merryweather & Seattle].
