Back to Delaney's Reel
DELANEY'S REEL. Irish, (Single) Reel. D Major. Aka "The Old Pensioner," "Hickey's (1)," "Ballydesmond Reel (The)." Standard tuning (fiddle). AB.
"Delaney's Reel" was the name given to this reel in Francis O'Neill's "400 Selections" collaboration with Selena O'Neill. In his 1903 collection, the same tune was titled "The Old Pensioner" and the source given was fiddler John McFadden, a frequent duet partner of piper Barney Delaney.
