Grey Eagle (or Grey Eagle: Volume 2) is the third commercially released album by Ed Haley. The album is the second volume in a two-album four CD set, released by Rounder Records in 1997.
Background
The home recordings of Ed Haley, from 1946 and 1947, were first released by Rounder on "Parkersburg Landing" in 1976. However, the release was not received well by Haley's family, as they felt the recordings used were not an accurate representation of his performing style. John Hartford, after having discovered the album, made it his personal task to find and preserve the history and music of Ed Haley. In addition to co-authoring a manuscript for a biography on Haley, Hartford sought to transfer all of the remaining discs to tape, with about 100 recordings recovered from a supposed collection of over 300.
After promotion by Hartford, the four CD set was released in 1997 containing 72 tracks in total, with 66 tunes performed by Haley on fiddle, occasionally accompanied by his former wife Martha Ella on accordion and mandolin.
