PONY RACES [2], THE. AKA - "Poney Races (The)." Scottish (?), Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Watlen notes: "As performed by Mr. Giles and others." He refers to Master Giles, a young and talented performer of the 1791 season of the Edinburgh circus, known as "The little Devil on Horseback." He was a member of the equestrian company that also included John Bill Ricketts, John Porter, Joseph Jenkinson, Mr. King, Mr. Sutton and the leader of the troupe, William Parker[1].
