JULIA DELANEY [2]. Irish, Reel. D Minor/Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Silberberg): AABB' (Songer). A variant of "Julia Delaney (1)"; apart from the key change, there is more similarity in the first strain of both versions, with diverging 'B' parts. This is the popular session version. Paul de Grae notes that this variant version is similar to O'Neill's "Groves of Mt. Talbot (The)" (communicated to him from a musician named John Kelly, of San Francisco), and P.W. Joyce's "Glenloe". More distanced resemblances may be found, finds de Grae, in minor-mode settings of "Lawson's Favourite" and "Maude Miller".
Source for notated version: George Penk (Portland, Oregon) [Songer]; Cathie Whitesides [Silberberg].
Printed sources: Bulmer & Sharpley (Music from Ireland vol. 4), 1976; No. 4. Cranford (Jerry Holland: The Second Collection), 2000; No. 113, p. 44. Silberberg (Tunes I Learned at Tractor Tavern), 2002; p. 78. Songer (Portland Collection), 1997; p. 115.
Recorded sources: Gael-Linn CEF060, "Paddy Glackin" (1977). Green Linnet GLCD 3009, Kevin Burke - "If the Cap Fits" (1978). Green Linnet SIF 1139 - "Eileen Ivers" (1994). Philo 2005, John McGreevy - "McGreevy & Cooley" (1974. Appears as "Lonesome Reel"). Wild Asparagus 003, Wild Asparagus - "Tone Roads" (1990).
