Back to Kincaldrum
KINCALDRUM('S). AKA and see "Devil in a Bush (The)." Scottish; Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Surenne): AAB (Athole, Gow): AABB' (Skye). The alternate title, "Devil in a Bush (The)," seems idiosyncratic to Northumbrian musician William Vickers, who included it in his 1770-1772 music manuscript. It was also included by Waverton, Cumbria, musician John Rook (as "Kincaldrum's Reel") in his 1840 music manuscript (p. 189). See also the related "England's Glory."
Kincaldrum is a place-name in central Angus, not far from Glamis. There is Kincaldrum Hill (912 ft.) near Kincaldrum House, once the seat of the Baxter family. The manor has since become a ruin.
