NORTON'S REEL. American, Schottische. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Apparently associated with the Jimmy Norton who is identified as the "Boss jig player" in the Howe publications. Norton was presumably a Boston area musician and/or bandleader with a local reputation, although nothing about him has surfaced to date. Two publications, "Jiggy Jigs (Five Old Favorites) Set 1" and "Real Reels (Five Old Favorites) Set 1" are by a Jimmy Norton and are advertised in Jacobs Band Monthly of January, 1921; however they were copyrighted in 1907. It is not known if this is the same Norton or not. See also Howe's "Norton's Favorite."
