The tune appears in dancing master Daniel Wright's Wright's Compleat Collection of (London, 1740, published by John Johnson), John Walsh's Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing Master (editions of c. 1735 & 1749). Earlier it had appeared as a song in Mary de la Rivi Manley's Court Legacy (1733, Air IX), also issued on ballad and song sheets.
