HIGHLAND LASSIE [1], THE. AKA and see "As I came o’er the Cairney Mount." Scottish, Air (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEEFF. The melody was used for the song "As I came o'er the Cairney mount" in Johnson's Scots Musical Museum, vol. V (Song 467, p. 480). The first stanza goes:

As I came o'er the Cairney mount,
And down amang the blooming heather,
Kindly stood the milking-shiel,
To shelter frae the stormy weather.
O my bonie Highland lad,
My winsome, weel far'd Highland laddie;
Wha' wad mind the wind and rain,
Sae weel row'd in his tartan plaidie.

Alternate title for the song are "Hieland Laddie," "Hielnlad" and "The Highland Lassie." See note for "annotation:As I came o’er the Cairney Mount" for more.
