Ciaran Carson (Last Night's Fun, 1996) proclaims it the Catholic version of the tune Irish Protestants call "Boyne Water (1)." John Moulden believes its use for the Protestant song “Boyne Water” predates its use as the tune for “Rosc Catha na Mumhan.” The same melody (as “Idbury Hill”) is employed by English morris dancers as the vehicle for the dance The Three Musketeers.
