JACKY BULL. AKA - "Jacky Bull from France," "Pink of Macaronies (The)" English, Air (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The air was heard on the London stage sung by "Mr. Wilson," in John O'Keeffe's (1747-1833) musical farce The Agreeable Surprise, which debuted in the Haymarket in September, 1781. Dr. Samuel Arnold (1737-1802) composed the music, while O'Keefe's lyric goes:
In Jacky Bill, when bound for France,
The gosling you discover;
But taught to ride, to fence, and dance,
A finish'd goose comes over.
With his tierce and carte--fa! fa!
And his cotillion so smart--ha! ha!
He charms each female heart--oh, la!
As Jacky returns from Dover.
For cocks and dogs, see 'squire at home,
The price of country tonies;
Return'd from Paris, Spa or Rome,
Our 'squie's a nice adonis.
With his tierce and carte--fa! fa!
And his cotillion so smart--ha! ha!
He charms each female heart--oh, la!
As pink of macaronies.
