MASONS LARDY. American, Reel (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody, a distanced version of the tune well-known under the title "Mason's Apron" is contained in the Woburn (Mass.) Fife Manuscript, a ms. collection inscribed with the the name Seth Johnson and "Woburn. April 20th day, 1807. I Bought this Book, 5:3." Entries are thought to have been made between 1807 and as late as 1840. The title could refer to a 'lardy-cake', a baked item containing lard, or it could be a reference to a mason's weight (lardy=colloquial for fat, derogatory).
