This template is used on approximately 200,000 pages. This template is designed to help prevent spam from being sent to an e-mail address inserted onto a Wikipedia page. Because nearly all spam is automated,[1] altering the format of the e-mail address to where it does not match the regular expression(s) in the e-mail address search engine helps prevent spam.
