RUN, RABBIT, RUN. Old-Time, Breakdown (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The second strain is irregular. "Run, Rabbit, Run" was composed by West Virginia fiddler Clarence "Curly" Herdman (1918-1968), who was born into a musical family who lived near Ripley, Jackson County. Herdman appeared on most of the mid-20th century radio jamborees, played fiddle for country music performer Red Foley and others, and was a member of several bands including the Georgia Crackers and, in later years in southeaster Pennsylvania, the West Virginia Boys. "Run, Rabbit, Run" was renamed "Run, Nygarrd, Run" on a 1994 tape of Clyde Curley and other Pacific Northwest musicians, in honor of ex-Seattle musician Scott Nygarrd. It is thus a play on the title "Run, Nigger, Run." Performer Ward Jarvis also played the reel, which he learned from Herdman.
